KEEP GEORGETOWN SAFE
Keep Georgetown Safe is a coalition of diverse local businesses advocating for new sign rules to enhance safety and promote economic growth in our community.

Georgetown needs updated sign rules to allow for electronic message center (EMC) signs. EMC signs are crucial for public safety, as they provide critical information during emergencies and natural disasters. They can relay up-to-date information about road closures, severe weather, alternate routes, and other important alerts that help citizens stay safe. EMC signs can also promote non-emergency public safety, governmental, and non-profit messages.
EMC technology in Georgetown will be privately funded through limited commercial messaging, stimulating the local economy and creating new jobs. The signs will be strictly regulated and limited to major highways to protect sensitive areas like neighborhoods, parks, and school zones.
By adopting EMC signs, Georgetown can enhance emergency preparedness, improve public safety, and create new economic opportunities. Join us in urging Georgetown to revise its sign rules and make the city a safer place for everyone.
New rules for signs in
GEORGETOWN will:
Benefit the Local Economy
More customers for Georgetown businesses will lead to more sales tax revenue, more job creation, and business expansion.
Keep Citizens Safe
EMC digital signs can be programmed remotely and provide critical and timely information when seconds count. Weather alerts, Amber alerts, Silver alerts, and communications from fire and police officials will help keep citizens and property safe.
Promote Fairness and Competition
Many cities have sign monopolies in place that artificially inflate prices for scarce advertising space. Each new EMC sign is like 16 signs in one – an increase in supply will help keep prices down.
Protect Property Rights
Giving landowners the ability to lease their property is an important property right. Rent income generated from land leases is significant and will create new opportunities for landowners and their families.

What Can be done?
We are requesting common sense sign rule updates that benefit all businesses and not just the big companies that come in from out of town. New rules will ensure new EMC signs are built in an attractive way, promote the city and its branding, and prevent sign clutter and proliferation, all at zero expense to Georgetown taxpayers.
Let Georgetown city leaders know that a modern city deserves modern sign regulations.
